January Newsletter 2026
Welcome to 2026 at The Yoga Barn
It’s time to dispel the January chills and take time to prioritise your own health. The Yoga Barn is a warm welcoming space that invites you to switch off. The heated floor comes in to its own this time of year.
Below are our new classes and workshops to look forward to, including fresh offerings for a new year. All are designed to make feeling better doable!
By popular demand we have introduced an 8.45am Saturday morning Pilates class with Erin.
We have moved Wednesdays Restorative Yoga to the end of the afternoon at 4.15pm – so you can finish your day relaxed and positive ( and maybe fit in 3pm Pilates as well!) For any Beginners who hesitate to know where to start – Annabel is teaching New To Yoga on Wednesday at 1.30pm.
We are delighted to welcome Hannah James of Hanmatmovement to teach pre and post natal Pilates workshops – 11th &18th April. We had a lovely morning with Hannah and the mums and babies before Christmas and hope to make this a regular feature.
And we are excited to announce our first mini retreat as you have asked for longer workshops making the most of what’s on offer at the Courtyard – it’s the perfect Mother’s Day weekend treat.

January Workshops
Carolyn – Restorative Yoga and Meditation
Saturday 24th January | 11:30am – 1:00pm
£20
Restorative Yoga is a gentler form of yoga, performed at a slower pace using asanas (poses) focusing on stretching and relaxing the body. This slower type of practice encourages deep relaxation and stillness, which can help reduce stress and musculoskeletal pain associated with tight muscles, joints & connective tissues. Props are often used, such as blocks and bolsters, to encourage a deeper relaxation practice.
Focus during this practice is also on connecting with the breath to deepen the relaxation process and the mind/body connection, which can help lower cortisol levels (stress hormone) in the body. It is a wonderful practice to calm the mind and soothe the body and perfect to help people reach deep overall relaxation, a perfect practice to unwind and create inner peace.
This workshop will finish with a guided meditation to deepen the relaxation of the body and mind, encouraging an overall sense of calm and wellbeing.
Carolyn is a registered physiotherapist, sports & deep tissue massage therapist, NLP practitioner, and yoga & Pilates teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (MCSP/HCPC), Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement (Exercise Science), and a Diploma in Yoga Teacher Training.

February Workshops
Carolyn – Yin Yoga
Wednesday 4th February | 6:00pm – 8:00pm
£25
Are you a bit achey and need to stretch? Then this 2 hour workshop is for you.
Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that differs from other yoga practices by avoiding the use of muscular effort to hold the poses. Yin yoga uses deep poses to stretch and release tension in the
body, particularly the connective tissues in the joints. Yin yoga poses can be challenging as we hold the position to deepen the stretch in the fascia (connective tissues) of the body. Props are used to help facilitate a deep stretch and the poses are usually held between 3-10 minutes each.
This is where the challenge can be, as we find the stillness in the pose for an extended period of time. It’s important to connect our mind to the breath to help ease into and hold these poses. The compression on the tissues during these stretches stimulates various Meridan lines (energy channels) in the body, which can affect the corresponding organs in the body and often we might experience a deep emotional release also.

Aleka Powell – Gong Bath
Saturday 7th February | 2:00pm – 3:30pm
£30
Sound healing has been around for thousands of years, with roots in many ancient cultures. A sound bath is a meditative experience where you will be “bathed” in sound waves produced by various instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, chimes, and other resonant frequencies. The vibrations and frequencies are designed to bring about a state of deep relaxation, stress reduction, and overall health and vitality.
No experience needed, just lie back and get cosy on the heated floor.
