Below is a guide to our classes

With our dedicated team of experienced teachers we offer yoga, pilates and tai chi suitable for everyone from complete beginner to advanced student. Below is a guide to our classes at the yoga barn.
If you are a complete beginner, although you are welcome to join in most classes, you may prefer to start with a gentle class or contact us with any questions.

Yoga Classes

Morning Slow Flow – is an uplifting morning yoga session.  No experience necessary, all welcome.

Heard a lot about the benefits of Yoga but not sure where to start?

How about joining a group of people that all feel the same and learning together

At the end of this 4 week foundational journey you will have had
 – an introduction to the philosophy of Yoga,
– an introduction to the structure of the sun salutations
– an introduction to understanding why how we breathe  influences our daily life and learning some useful breathing techniques
– an introduction to basic Yoga postures and linking them together

This New to Yoga foundation series will have a slow pace, allowing time for individual guidance and time for questions

With this foundation you can then feel comfortable to join any class of your choosing at Jordans – some are more energetic and some are more relaxing, you may want to do a variety of different styles or indeed find the one just right for you.
Or you may prefer to remain in the New to Yoga class if that works for you.

No experience necessary. Classic yoga class

Movement, breath work and a mindful approach to yoga poses to release tension, improve flexibility and encourage a deep sense of well-being.

Open to all but aimed at the older, less mobile person, this gentle class will aim to improve your balance and gently stretch your muscles.  Can be chair based for the less mobile.

Restorative yoga is about slowing down and giving the body a chance to rest.

With the use of bolsters, blankets and props the body is fully supported in these longer held poses allowing mental and physical relaxation. When we allow the body to rest for an extended amount of time the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated which promotes a relaxation response and reduces stress.

These classes will be gentle and slow paced with the majority of poses being supine. The main aim is on relaxation and the classes are suitable for all.

The Iyengar method of Yoga is named after Yogacharya Sri BKS Iyengar.

The teaching helps you focus on correct alignment of the body in the Yoga poses.  This ensures that you’re working safely, with maximum benefit to your flexibility, strength and wellbeing.

The postures are very precise and you will be guided through them by an experienced teacher who is trained to make appropriate adjustments for different physiques and for people with specific problems.

The classes can be hard work, however you will leave the class feeling lighter and calmer.  The immediate benefits are greater flexibility and strength and better physical health.  As you continue with your practice, your wellbeing improves as psychological benefits begin to appear.

This class is suitable for people with some experience of yoga

Tai Chi Classes

Suitable for all, no experience necessary.  Come and enjoy this ancient healing art.

This is an advanced class and please speak to us prior to booking if you have not done Chu’an before.  Existing clients of Monica who have previously attended this class are all welcome and eligible for this class.

Pilates Classes

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates after whom it was named.

Pilates workout is for all ages, all abilities. Focus, stretch and strengthen your back and abdominals. Everyone is welcome from beginners to more experienced participants. Come along if you want to develop better core strength, balance, flexibility, posture and breathing technique. Leave feeling relaxed, stretched and strong!

Intermediate Pilates is aimed at participants who have been doing Pilates for at least one year and have the understanding of the techniques, we move a little quicker from move to move but still focusing on posture, alignment, precision and breath.

Group Pilates class designed to enhance core strength and stability, improve posture and flexibility, and encourage mindfulness throughout each movement

  • I continue to enjoy Pilates and particularly like Kirsty’s approach, with a nice balance between challenging exercises and relaxation – excellent for keeping body and soul together during these challenging times.  It has been good to have cover for the sessions that she has been unable to do.  We do get withdrawal symptoms if there is a long gap between classes.

The whole environment at Jordans is therapeutic, from the warm welcome, (thank you Rose for organising us on Wednesdays!), to the light and airy Yoga Barn, with the doors open to the fresh air in the summer and the comforting under floor heating in the winter.  I don’t think you can improve on that!  The additional parking on the left of the site is very good as the car park is often full when I arrive for class.
